Pawhuska High School’s winter sports return in full gear next week with a full slate of home contests at Oren Terrill Field House.
PHS wrestlers will get their 2014 season rolling this Friday and Saturday when they participate against top competitors from all state classes at the prestigious Cushing Invitational Tournament.
On Monday, the basketball teams from Barnsdall High will visit PHS for make-up games from the start of the current campaign. Tip-off for the girls’ matchup is set for 6:30 p.m., with the boys’ contest to follow around 8 p.m.
The Huskies and Lady Huskies will return to the court on Tuesday for road games at Newkirk before returning home Thursday, Jan. 9, for games against Caney Valley.
Monty Unruh is head coach for the Pawhuska boys, who are 2-3 so far this year. Austin Minshall coaches the PHS girls’ squad, which is off to a 3-2 start.
The Huskie wrestling team, which had most of its December schedule cancelled due to foul weather, will try to finally launch the home schedule Tuesday night versus the visiting Newkirk Tigers. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. This year’s dynamic PHS mat squad includes several proven upper-class grapplers and a strong contingent of promising freshmen. Coach of the Huskies is Wade Rogers.
Pawhuska’s grapplers also have a road match slated at Pawnee on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and anther home dual match set for Jan. 16 against Tonkawa.
