Huskies top Ironmen in basketball homecoming

The Pawhuska Huskies never relinquished the lead in Tuesday’s high school homecoming basketball victory, 58-54, over the late-charging Nowata Ironmen.

Pawhuska High School wrestler John Bighorse wages a big-time battle with Baylee Perigo of the Barnsdall Panthers during last month’s dual at the Joe Gilbert Field House. When the dust settled, the Panthers had a victory in the Under 285-pound bout, while the Huskies were the winners of the dual by a score of 38-36. Oren Terrill Field House is to be the site of Pawhuska’s 20th-annual Carmen Classic wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23. Youngwolfe, Perrier claim Inola mat titles

Pawhuska’s Levi Youngwolfe and Price Perrier brought home wrestling titles last weekend as the Huskies’ squad opened its busy 2016 mat schedule at the Inola High School Tournament.


The Pawhuska Lady Huskies fall soccer team won first place in the U19 women’s division of the Oklahoma Soccer Association. They scored 39 goals while only allowing 9 goals en-route to 7 wins and 2 losses. The team was made up of girls as young as 13 who were playing up two levels, and freshman and sophomores who were playing up one level. The Pawhuska Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2016 includes: local coach Harold Huffman and former PHS players Pat Carter, Charley Bighorse and Hoby Muller, as well as ex-Lady Huskie Gayla Boone. Induction ceremonies are set Friday. Following the HOF banquet, honorees will be introduced during the PHS home games against Dewey.
