Peggy Gassaway Whitt Asher, 89, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.
She was born Sept. 19, 1924, Coalgate, Okla. to P.L. and Lillian (Fooshee) Gassaway. Peggy received her bachelor’s degree From East Central University and her master’s from Oklahoma State University. She taught journalism and business in Shidler Publc Schools and at Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa. For many years Peggy and her first husband, Marcus were very active in the First Methodist Church of Shidler, Okla. and the community.
Her husband Marcus died in 2002. Peggy married Tipton Asher in 2003.
Peggy is survived by her husband Tipton; her sons and daughters in law Marcus Burns Whitt II and his wife Pam of Edmond, Okla., Jim Whitt and his wife Sondra of Tulsa, Okla.; step-son Richard Asher and his wife Barbara of Alaska; grandchildren Aaron Whitt, Sarah Whitt, Marcus Burns Whitt III and Evan Whitt; and great grandchild Elijah Whitt.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Marcus Burns Whitt, and two sons, Robert Patrick Burns (1956) and John Gassaway Whitt (1978).
