Funeral services for John George Young, 83, of Lawrence, Kan., were held Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. He died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
John was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Barnsdall, the son of Somers and Eliza (Davis) Young.
He was from the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma.
John served his country in the United States Air Force as a medic in the Korean War.
He received his associate’s degree from Northern Oklahoma College.
He was a dorm supervisor at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence.
He married Clara Ann Willison on Jan. 19, 1957, in Pawhuska. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, JoEllen Young, of Pawhuska, Julia Kay Teel and husband, Mark, of Lawrence; two sons, Jimmie Dean Sandusky, of Terlton, John Walter Young, of Lawrence; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Johnnie Ann Young-Fields; one sister, Sue Beth Young; and one brother Somers James “Jim” Young in 2010.
The family suggests memorial in his name to the Lawrence Humane Society or The American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
