Gary Dean Cox

Gary Dean Cox passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his home in Pershing, Okla. surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 16, 1937 in Pawhuska, Okla. to parents Hiram Cox and Vivian Elizabeth (Webb) Cox. He grew up and went to school in Pawhuska.

He proudly served in the National Guard and United States Army and served in the Korean War. It was during this time, in 1957, that he met and married his lovely wife, Mary Jane (Parker) Cox. They spent 56 wonderful years together. He worked for Halliburton Services for many years, which took him and his family overseas for several of these years. He started the Pershing Volunteer Fire Department. He also raised Beef Master cattle. He worked at the Barnsdall Nursing Home. He was a member and served at the Pawhuska Church of Christ for many years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Hiram Cox; his daughter, Callie Jo Cox; and his grandsons, Michael Daniels and Steven Minney.

He is survived by his mother, his wife, his sons Hiram (Sharon) Cox and Scott Cox; and his daughters, Yana (Dennis Minney, Debra (Bobby) McKelvey, and Elizabeth (Mike) Daniels; his sisters, Sandra Cox, Treva Scully and Sue Meiler. He is also survived by five grandchildren and many other relatives.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 17, 10:30 a.m., at the Ethel Reese Cemetery, Barnsdall. Pastor Church Glendenning officiated. Graveside military honors were presented by the American Legion and VFW. Interment followed.

McCartney’s Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
