Doris Ann Ware


Doris Ann Ware, 72, died Jan. 30 in the Intensive Care Unit at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.

Interment was in the Pawhuska City Cemetery on Feb. 3 under the direction of McCartney’s Johnson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Chapter of Special Olympics or the American Cancer Society.

Doris was born Feb. 19, 1941 in Wynona to Clark and Dora M. Smith Ware. She was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome at the age of 18 months and entered the Enid Oklahoma State School for handicapped children at about age 6, where she remained to age 18, and was transferred to the Hays House for the handicapped in Nowata. She spent the rest of her life at Hays House, with summer vacations with her parents in Wynona.

Doris is survived by brothers, Gene Ware of Hominy, and Ben Ware and wife, Linda, of Wynona; sister-in-law, Kathy Ware, of Wynona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Dora Ware; brothers, Melvin, Floyd and Dennis Ware; sisters, Ella Louise Ware and Lillian Jane Ware Myers.
