WYNONA SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT NOTES

(submitted by Superintendent Dixie Hurd)

State testing is complete! Well, almost. If high school students who tested on Monday or Tuesday were interrupted and wish to retake their tests, they may. There were numerous outages on Monday and several on Tuesday. The testing was difficult to say the least. The testing company’s server had problems. They resolved the issues, I think, but our tests were already finished.

Our field trips are winding down as is the school year. The PreK/K, 1st, 4th and 5th grades went to the zoo on Monday. The elementary will have the science fair on Tuesday, May 9. The high school will have baccalaureate practice on that day at 2:00. There will be no school on Friday, May 10.

Remember, if students are in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade and their parent’s income (line 22 on 1040 or line 15 on 1040A) is less than $50,000, and the student maintains a 2.5 overall GPA and a 2.5 GPA on the core subjects, and stays out of trouble, he/she will qualify for the Oklahoma Promise scholarship. This will pay for college tuition! The deadline is June 30 of the 10th grade year. If these qualifications are met, it is very important to fill out the form. The website is www.okpromise.org.

We will have a talent show on the last day of school. Students will need to turn in their music selections to Ms. Hurd starting next week. We are going to try to limit the time for each act to 1 1/2 minutes. It will be interesting to see how our new sound system works for the talent show! Our students are very talented! Mrs. Shulanberger has been working with students on a play. They will present the play on May 16. The last day of school is May 17 and graduation is that evening at 7 p.m. School is flying past, let’s make these last weeks the best!

VETERAN REPRESENTATIVE AT WYNONA TOWN HALL

Just a reminder that Lee Webb, is still coming to the Town Hall on Fridays from 11:30 until 12:30 to help Veterans with their benefits. This is a great opportunity for veterans and should be utilized by all that are qualified. Veterans are reminded that they can use their tax exempt card from the state to exempt taxes on their phone bills. Just contact your telephone provider for more details.

WYNONA FOUNDERS DAY PLANNING MEETING

Everyone is encouraged to attend and make plans for a fun filled Founders Day Saturday, June 8. We also need for lots of businesses and individuals to plan on having a float in the parade. We are having an auction and taking donations for good usable merchandise. We also are getting some pretty big boasting from Grillmasters, challenging people to come out and try to outgrill them. It will be a fun and exciting day with so much fun packed in, everyone should be involved.

People should also be planning and making their box cars if they are going to be in the races. The kid’s games will be earlier in the day than in the past to keep the turtles fresh and at their running best! The lunch will be provided once again by the famous Wild Country Meats in Hominy. A hot dog eating contest is also in the plans. We still need large red plastic coffee cans for the Little Mr and Miss Wynona contestants. Please bring your coffee cans to Town Hall.

WYNONANS LOSE HOME

IN FIRE

Wynonans, Stephen (Gibby) and Maggie Gibson and their grandson Dwayne Pappan were unfortunate to lose their home in a fire on Wednesday, May 1.

Wynona Fire Department responded as well as Hominy Fire Department. The home was a total loss, according to family members. Donations are being accepted at Wynona Town Hall. The family lost everything, only getting out with the clothes on their backs. Dwayne, age 16, wears 34-32 in pants, and large in shirts. Gibby wears 38-34 in pants, 3x shirts. Maggie wears 40-32 pants and 2x in shirts. They can use all household items and any types of personal items.

Please help in any way you can and bring donations to the Wynona Town Hall.
