VETERAN REPRESENTATIVE AT WYNONA TOWN HALL

Just a reminder that Lee Webb, is still coming to the Town Hall on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 to help Veterans with their benefits. This is a great opportunity for veterans and should be utilized by all that are qualified. Veterans are reminded that they can use their tax exempt card from the state to exempt taxes on their phone bills. Just contact your telephone provider for more details. The OK Department of Veterans Affairs representative will not be coming to Osage County anymore, but Lee Webb will be still doing the Veterans Assistance for this area. Every Friday Lee will be at the Pawhuska Community Center-9 a.m-11 a.m.; Wynona 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; and Hominy from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. and any other towns that need assistance can come to one of these towns to meet with Lee. Remember that the VA Healthcare meets all the requirements for Obamacare, so anyone who does not have their VA Healthcare should come and talk to Lee.

WYNONA SCHOOL NOTES

(submitted by Dixie Hurd, Superintendent)

Fall Break is right around the corner. No school on Friday, Oct. 11 and Fall Break is Oct. 14 - 18. Second quarter begins on Oct. 21. Report cards will go home with students on Oct. 23. If, by chance you missed seeing your child’s report card, please call the office at 918-846-2467 to get a copy.

Mr. Pinkston and the athletics teams will be having a garage sale on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. If you have used items that you would like to donate, please call the office! We need donations for the garage sale! The proceeds will benefit the athletics department.

The sophomore class will take the Plan tests on Monday, Oct. 7, at 8:30 a.m. Kerensa Kester, from Tri County Tech, will come to our school to administer the tests. These tests are very important because certain tests can be used as alternatives to the EOI, if it has not been passed. If Plan scores are high enough on certain subjects, they can be used as an alternative way to meet this goal. The Plan scores are also used by Tri County as a part of their admission criteria. Students should always take time and do their bests on these tests. The eighth grade students will go to Tri County on October 22, to take the Explore tests. This is a very important test for them because it is another opportunity to pass satisfactorily on the reading. Students must pass an 8th grade reading test in order to get a driver’s license. A representative from Roger’s State will be here on Oct. 29, at 1:50 p.m. to talk to seniors about college entrance information.

Our Robotics teams are off to a great start. They have made a trip to Alva to learn about the competition and to pick up the materials. The will be making their robots and then will showcase their work on Mall Day in Wichita Kan., on Saturday, Oct. 26. We are very proud of the efforts of our students as well as Mr. Powell and Ms. Ervin.

The next Parent Teacher Organization meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 5:30 p.m.. Everyone is invited to attend. It will be in Ms. Shulanberger’s room on the south end of the elementary building. We are asking for donations for themed baskets for our Fall Carnival. We need OSU/OU items, baking items, holiday items and art items for our baskets to be auctioned in a silent auction.

The Fall Carnival will be Friday, Oct. 25, from 6 - 8 p.m. Tickets will be 25 cents each. Booths will require varying amounts of tickets. We will be needing baked goods for our “famous” cake walk. If you can donate items, we would truly appreciate the support and we would be honored to have everyone join us for this fun evening!

TOWN TRYING TO SET UP FLU CLINIC

Town Clerk, Tennie Slone has been trying to find an agency that will come to the Town Hall for a Flu Shot Clinic. If anyone knows of an agency that can do this, please contact Slone at 918-846-2526. We have had a good success with this in the past and would like to have another one to help protect our citizens from the Flu!

CONDOLENCES

Wynonans offer their condolences to the many friends and family members of Bill Jones, who was killed tragically in a car accident. Bill was always know to be a hard working man, always ready with a funny story or joke to pass on and a friend to all who knew him. We will all miss Bill!

NEW BUSINESS

You may have noticed the newest business in Wynona, as you are driving through on Highway 99 across from the school. It is an Ice House, owned by E W Carter from Hominy.

The Ice House is open 24 hours a day seven days a week and provides bags of ice and water that is filtered eight times before it comes out. We are excited about having the new business!

TRICK OR TREAT

Trick or Treat in Wynona will be Oct. 31, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. All treaters are asked to leave their porch lights on. Traffic in Wynona should be observing a 15 mph speed limit during those hours.
