WYNONA TOWN HALL REPORT

The Wynona Board of Trustees met for the September meeting on Sept. 17 at the town hall. The Board passed a resolution for the Osage County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, after the regular business was conducted.

In other business, they agreed that if the Utility Department sprayed for weeds around the water meters that they should ask permission from the homeowner first. The Board also appointed Joey Stone in charge of the Christmas parade and set the date for it as Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Halloween was also discussed and the Board agreed that the Trick or Treating would be on Thursday, October 31st from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Treaters should leave their porch light on so that the little ones will know where to safely go.

Attending the meeting were; Chance Crawford, Donna Swanner, Jason Clark, Joey Stone, Goober Robinson, Della Carter, Janet Delaney, Johnnie Lott and Tennie Slone. The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

HELP OUT E.S.C.A.P.E. MINISTRIES

The E.S.C.A.P.E. Ministries are the people who donate all the good food for the Wynona residents and they are sponsoring their 7th annual Live and Silent Auction. It is a free chili dog dinner with all the fixin’s in exchange for canned foods. It will be held on Monday, Oct. 7, from 6-9 p.m. at the Cleveland Community Center (Next to the Library). The auction promises something for everyone. Let’s show our appreciation to this wonderful group for all the help they have given to the Town of Wynona.

WYNONA SCHOOL NOTES

(Submitted by Dixie Hurd, Superintendent)

We would like to thank our parents and teachers for taking the time to connect and compare information about our students’ progress. Progress reports and preliminary state test scores from last year were discussed in these conferences. If you missed the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, please call the school and reschedule. This is a chance to help children make corrections and have a chance for better scores on the grades that do go down on the report cards later in the school year. All parents should take a moment to make this connection with teachers.

Wynona Public School would once again like to thank The Wynona First Baptist Church for their generous donations of school supplies. The Vacation Bible School made a special donation from their offerings. We appreciate this generosity and caring from our local church.

We have a group of students who are trying to raise money to make a special trip to Washington D.C. next summer. Shelly Shulanberger and Shelly Ervin are the teachers who are making this possible. This is not a school sponsored event, but it is a wonderful opportunity for students to get to see our nation’s capitol. These students, will hopefully, be fully funded through the fund raisers that they are working on so diligently. They are currently selling Blue and Gold sausage, chicken and bacon at this time. Please contact the school for more information.

We have several students who will be honored soon for the work they have done in learning their math facts! We will have monthly awards assemblies to honor these students. Our first assembly will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 2:45 p.m. Parents are invited to attend! Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 5:30 p.m. and we encourage all parents to join us! The Wynona School T-shirt sales are due October 2 and the popcorn sales sheets and money are due Wednesday, Sept. 25. We appreciate the community and parent support!

We are very appreciative our community and its citizens. Thank you again for supporting our school by passing our bond election. The bonds will be sold in the spring and we can get started with the progress after that. We also appreciate those people who have contributed to our athletics program by purchasing a sign to hang on the ball field. Together we can make great things happen!
