The three-day filing period for board of education candidates in Pawhuska and other area school districts begins at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, according to Osage County Election Board Secretary Andrea Conner.

Declarations of candidacy will continue being accepted during business hours Tuesday and Wednesday, with the filing period scheduled to close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 4. The deadline to contest a candidacy or for withdrawing from a race is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, Conner added.

The annual school elections for 2014 are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. If a district has no candidates receive more than 50 percent of the votes cast at the initial election, the two hopefuls garnering the highest totals will meet for a second vote on Tuesday, April 1, Conner said.

Due to be filled in the Pawhuska School District will be a five-year term in Office Four. At present, Pawhuska Board of Education Office No. 4 is held by Justin Sellers, who currently serves as the board’s president.

Other school board offices in Osage County that are up for election include: Barnsdall office No. 4 (with a five-year term), Bowring seat No. 1 (for a three-year term), Hominy seat four (and a five-year term), Osage Hills office No. 3 (three years), Shidler seat No. 4 (five years) and Wynona office Four (five years).

Woodland School District will have two seats up for grabs: Offices No. 6 and 7, both offering four-year terms.
