Poker run will benefit Avant Fire Department

A motorcycle poker run is scheduled Saturday, April 5, to assist with efforts to raise funds for replacing a fire truck and other equipment that was stolen late last year from the Avant Volunteer Fire Department.

“Out of the Ashes Poker Run” will start and finish at the Avant Fire Station. The first bike is to head out at 1 p.m. and the last one will be going at 2:30 p.m., event organizers said. Prizes are to be awarded for the best hand and the worst hand.

A 50/50 drawing and other activities also are planned. The band, SkyTown, will begin playing at 5 p.m., organizers added.

The poker run is one of several events being held to help the volunteer department recover from the effects of a Dec. 4, 2013, burglary.
