Barnsdall man injured in single-vehicle accident

A single-vehicle vehicle accident near Ochelata on Thursday saw a 20-year-old Barnsdall man taken to Jane Phillips Medical Center in serious condition.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at around 9:14 p.m. July 18 on County Road East 2900, which is about four-tenths of a mile east of County Road 3950, about 2.5 miles east of Ochelata.

At that time, a 2005 Chevy pickup, driven by Thomas William Ray Smith, was eastbound when he lost control and ran off the right side of the road and through a fence. At that point, authorities say the vehicle then rolled twice before coming to rest on its wheels. The report states that Smith was ejected from the vehicle “approximately 30 feet.”

Smith was then transported to Jane Phillips Medical Center by Bartlesville EMS and was admitted in serious condition with head, trunk external and trunk internal injuries.

Authorities listed the cause of the accident as “inattention” and the condition of the driver as “sleepy.”
