74-year-old Blackwell man injured in motorcycle accident

A 74-year-old Blackwell man was injured in a single motorcycle accident Saturday in Osage County.

According to information from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 12:30 p.m. on State Highway 18 and County Road 4020 about 6 miles south of Shidler in Osage County.

At that time, a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Benjamin Honeycutt was southbound on Highway 18 when he reportedly took a turn at “a high rate of speed and exited roadway to the left.”

Honeycutt was then thrown from the motorcycle, which came to rest about 18 feet away from the driver in a ditch.

Honeycutt was transported by Shidler EMS to Ponca City Medical Center before being airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal and head injuries.

Authorities say that Honeycutt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and listed the cause of the collision as “unsafe speed on curve/turn.”
