FOUNDERS DAY COMING! HELP CLEAN UP WYNONA
Wynona Founders Day will be Saturday, June 14, with all kinds of fun in the works. There will be a Little Mr. and Little Miss Wynona contest, a BBQ Cookoff contest, Hot Dog eating contest, Boxcar Derby, a street dance with Bill Slone and the Country Express Band. The registration packets and rules for all the contests are available at Town Hall.
Everyone is encouraged to take part in the parade. It starts at 10 a.m. with the lineup at 9:30 at the Wynona Schools parking lot. All clubs, groups, individuals are encouraged to participate.
Wynonans are urged to look around their property and clean up the areas that need it. We are expecting lots of visitors in town for Founders Day. We always like to have our town looking as good as possible, but particularly on Founders Day. The Town Board has designated the last week in May as clean-up time.
Anyone who is interested in helping out by working some of the events, donating money or prizes are asked to contact Town Hall or Joey Stone.
The Alumni Association has announced that there will be no Alumni Banquet this year, because there wasn’t anyone willing to put it on. So they suggest that all Wynona Alumnus plan to come to the Wynona Founders Day activities.
There will be an area for everyone to sit and reminisce and have a good time. This way, we will all be spending the day and evening together, instead of just for a few hours in the evening.
Please tell all of your friends and family who are Wynona Alumni about this change of plans, because there will not be any mailings this year.
We want all the former Wynona students and staff to be aware of this change and to make plans to come and join us for all the fun and activities.
WYNONA BOARD OF TRUSTEES DISCUSS ISSUES AT MAY MEETING
The Wynona Board of Trustees met on May 20 at Town Hall. The board conducted regular business and then heard from a couple of concerned citizens about the dog problem and trash problems in town.
There was much discussion on this subject. The board then approved the FY2012-2013 audit, awarded the CDBG construction bid to SMC Utilities, and the board discussed a request for a Jake Brake ordinance and tabled it for a chance to get more information.
They also discussed a proposed ordinance concerning animals, which will be discussed next month.
The board had discussed last month — and wanted it put in the paper — that the 4-wheelers have been out running all hours of the night and that the hours for 4-wheelers are during the daylight hours only and according to ordinance, riders must be age 16 or older.
They also had discussed that people are running stop signs in town and wanted to make drivers aware that citations will be issued for offenders.
Attending the meeting were Chance Crawford, Susie Myers, Donna Swanner, Goober Robinson, Nancy Deatherage, Loretta Little, Janet Delaney and Tennie Slone.
The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 17.
Wynonans are urged to remember that school is out and the kids will be out and about in town.
Please use caution on the streets and please keep all dogs contained in your yard. Let’s help keep our kids as safe as possible and insure that they have the best summer ever!
VETERAN REPRESENTATIVE AT WYNONA TOWN HALL
Just a reminder that Lee Webb is still coming to the Town Hall on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to help veterans with their benefits.
Veterans are reminded that they can use their tax exempt card from the state to exempt taxes on their phone bills. Contact your telephone provider for more details.
The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs representative will not be coming to Osage County anymore, but Webb will be still doing veterans assistance for this area.
Every Friday Webb will be at the Pawhuska Community Center from 9 - 11 a.m.; in Wynona from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; in Hominy from 1 - 2 p.m.; and at Cleveland City Hall from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Any other towns that need assistance can come to one of these towns to meet with Webb.
VA Healthcare meets all the requirements for Obamacare, so anyone who does not have their VA Healthcare should come and talk to Webb.
