Flour ‘n Sugar competition heats up for second year

For the second consecutive year, Mother Andrea Jones of St. Thomas Episcopal Church challenged Pastor Kathy Morris of the Pawhuska First United Methodist Church to see which congregation could amass the largest number of sugar and flour for the Ministerial Alliance sponsored Christ’s Cupboard.

Last year the friendly competition netted 1,282 pounds of sugar and flour for the Cupboard.

“It is also a competition between men and women,” explained Pastor Kathy. “The women were asked to bring sugar and the men flour. The winners would be treated to sweets by the losers. When we tallied the number of pounds Sunday after church, the men had 302 pounds of flour compared to the women’s 278 pounds of sugar. Immediately the men began talking about home-made pies and cakes from some of our finest cooks.”

The verdict is still out who will win this year’s challenge. St. Thomas has yet to weigh in.
