Barnsdall planning 60th annual ‘Big Heart Day’

Barnsdall, “the Community with the Big Heart,” will celebrate its 60th Annual Big Heart Day over Memorial Day Weekend with most of the activities on Saturday, May 25.
The event promises to offer something for everyone with the variety and amount of activities planned, according to Claud Rosendale, president of the Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce.
It all starts on Friday afternoon, May 24, for the golfers with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. and a golf tee- off time at 1 p.m. at Adams Golf Club in Bartlesville. Later, it’s back to Barnsdall for an evening of fun at Gilbert Fieldhouse with alumni basketball games: ladies’ game at 7 p.m. and the men’s at 8 p.m.
Saturday morning, May 25, kicks off at 7 a.m. with the kids fishing tournament at the City Lake. All fishing entrants will get a prize. Exercise and fun are assured at the 5K Run to Remember starting at 8 a.m. and the one-mile Fun Run starting at 8:05 a.m.
Car buffs can register for the car and motorcycle show from 8 until 11 a.m. Everyone’s yearly favorites, the turtle races and frog jumping contests, take place at 9:15 a.m. at 5th & Main. The Big Heart Day Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Youngsters can take to the streets and get ready to rumble with tricycle races, sack races and a hula hoop contest.
At noon, guests are encouraged to sit back, relax and enjoy the preliminaries for this year’s Christian Music Talent Contest with the final rounds of the contest on Saturday night at 8:45 p.m. The Alumni Softball game is at 1:00 p.m. and then the school Alumni Meeting is at 3:00 p.m. in the Old “NEW” high school gymnasium. At 3 p.m. the Basketball Shooting contest starts in the City Park.
The Jenny Engle Gospel Music Program is from 4:30-6 p.m. and the Forever Young Band will sing and play at 7:30-8:45 p.m. and again at about 10:30-11-30 p.m.
The grand finale takes place Saturday night at 9:30 on Main Street when Big Heart Day’s annual fireworks display explodes to a fantastic patriotic music background topped off with a beautiful display of red hearts.
“For good old fashion family fun, Barnsdall’s Big Heart Day is just the ticket,” said Rosendale.
Sunday, May 26, at 2 p.m., the American Legion Post 227 Memorial Day Services take place at the Ethel Reece West Cemetery.
“This event is a selling point for Barnsdall by letting people know what ‘the Community with the Big Heart’ is all about,” Rosendale added.
